Dates & format

There are some important dates for your diary when it comes to following the festival of soccer in Qatar. The opening ceremony will be on 21st November before the competition begins with the group stages. Each pool consists of four teams who will play each other side in their set once. Three points will be awarded to the winner, with one for a draw and nothing for defeat.

The two best performing sides from each group after the three games will progress to the knockout stages, while the other two teams finishing third and fourth in the group will be eliminated. When we move on to knockout football, things start to get interesting. A winner and loser must be found in each tie, so extra time and penalties are available if required to separate the rivals.

The number of teams participating halves in each round until we are left with two that meet in the final and then a champion. The Round of 16 games begin on 3rd December with the quarter-finals on 9th December, the semi-finals on 13th December and the final is penned in for 18th December.

Favourites

There are many differences of opinion when it comes to picking the team that will win Qatar 2022, but who are the experts going with. When looking through the picks of pundits and other industry insiders, we see that Brazil have attracted the most attention, with many shrewd soccer lovers picking the Samba Boys to win it.

It has been many years since Brazil lived up to expectations and won the World Cup, with the team even missing out on lifting the trophy when playing host to the tournament. That may put a few people off supporting the Brazilians, with many lovers of European soccer preferring to side with the likes of France and England. Les Bleus failed to impress at Euro 2020, while England got to the final before losing to Italy on penalties.
