Yadav seeks India’s future support for Nepal

KATHMANDU (Agencies): Nepal President Ram Baran Yadav has said that support of a vibrant democracy like India would be crucial for Nepal’s future and economic prosperity once it concludes its political transition.

Yadav sought India’s continued support as he greeted an Indian delegation of politicians and businessmen, who were here on a three-day visit to attend a seminar on Indo-Nepal Economic Relations.

Yadav told the 25-member delegation led by Congress’s Uttarakhand Pradesh Committee spokesman, Dhirendra Pratap that Nepal is on the path towards concluding its peace process and writing a new constitution.

He also sought India’s support for Nepal to move forward on the path of economic prosperity after concluding the political transition.

“India is a vibrant democracy and we wish the winds from the largest democracy would also flow in our country,” Pratrap quoted the President as telling the delegation.

The president also invited investment from India for building a prosperous and self-reliant Nepal.

The President also congratulated the delegation for successful completion of assembly elections in five most populous states of India.

The delegation also met Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai, senior leaders of CPN-UML, Khadga Prasad Oli, and Bharat Mohan Adhikari and Nepali Congress lawmaker Diwakar Golchha.

Speaking at a seminar organised jointly by Economic Growth Society of India and Nepal-India Friendship Association here, C P Mainali, president of CPN-ML asked India not to interfere in the internal affairs of Nepal as the country writes a new constitution.

“As Nepalese political parties do not tolerate any activity that is against the security and interest of India on its soil, they also expect same from the Indian government and political parties,” he pointed out.

Congress leader Dhirendra Pratap said that India will stand by the people of Nepal in their effort to establish a democratic, federal republic.

“We have all the respect and love for the people of Nepal and we extend all possible support for building a peaceful, democratic and prosperous Nepal,” he said.
