I won’t be a nominated lawmaker: Shrestha

KATHMANDU: UCPN (M) Vice-Chairman Narayan Kaji Shrestha has said that he has no interest in becoming a nominated lawmaker.

In an interview with Kantipur Television, the UCPN (M) leader expressed his desire to play his part in the constitution drafting while staying outside the Constitution Assembly (CA). “I tasted defeat in the CA election,” he said, adding “My ethics would not allow me to be part of CA through nomination.”

Shrestha had lost to CPN-UML’s candidate Subash Chandra Thakuri from Makwanpur-2 constituency by around 1,000 votes during 2013 CA election.

He further informed that leaders from several political parties and civil society had requested him to get involved in constitution drafting by being part of CA. “I thank all my friends for that offer,” he said, “But I will not become part of CA.”

Meanwhile, he informed that a committee has been formed in his party under his leadership for helping the constitution drafting process, adding that he would put his entire efforts for the same.
