Woman recommended for first time in amicus curiae

KATHMANDU:- The Supreme Court Bar Association has recommended the name of senior advocate, Geeta Pathak, as member of the amicus curiae with an objective of making the bench inclusive regarding the hearing on the case of dissolution of House of Representatives.
A working committee meeting of the Supreme Court Bar held on Monday recommended the name of Pathak for the same, said Vice-Chairperson of Bar, Raju Khadka.
Supreme Court Bar had on Friday recommended the names of incumbent president of Bar, senior advocate Khagendra Prasad Adhikari, and recently elected president senior advocate, Purna Man Shakya, for the same.
Pathak has been recommended for the same after Bar president Adhikari is in isolation being infected with coronavirus.
The Supreme Court had issued an order to appoint two senior advocates from Supreme Court Bar for amicus curiae on the HoR dissolution case.
However, Nepal Bar Association on Thursday recommended names of senior advocates—Badri Bahadur Karki, Satish Krishna Kharel and Bijay Kant Mainali, in amicus curiae.
Written responses of President, Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers and Speaker of HoR have already been registered as per the order of the Supreme Court. The SC is conducting hearing on the case from January 11.
