What did Prime Minister Deuba say at the COP conference?


GLASGOW:- Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba addressed the International Conference on Climate Change last night. In this context, Prime Minister Deuba has informed that Nepal aims to reduce carbon emissions to zero by 2045 BS. Stating that Nepal is committed to the implementation of the Paris Agreement on Global Climate Change, Prime Minister Deuba expressed his commitment to reduce carbon emissions to zero.

Addressing the COP 26 International Conference on Climate Change in Glasgow, Scotland, Prime Minister Deuba said the world community should be concerned about the sensitivity of Nepal’s mountainous region as it is being affected by climate change. He urged world leaders to recognize the specific climate crisis in the Himalayan region and to prioritize the Himalayan agenda in all climate-related discussions.

He also informed that Nepal has submitted an ambitious National Assigned Contribution (NDC) to make every sector of its economy carbon-free. He also said that Nepal would supply 15 percent of the total energy demand from clean energy sources and create 45 percent forest area by 2030.

Stating that about 80 percent of Nepal’s population is at risk from natural and climatic disasters, Prime Minister Deuba said that natural disasters have caused about 6 billion in physical and economic damage to Nepal in the last 40 years. Speaking for about four minutes, Deuba acknowledged the value of nature and said that it was decided to set up an organization dedicated to work together on nature conservation and climate change.
