No there is no suspicion about the election. The election would take place on November 19 and CPN-UML will emerge as a new force after the election.
People say UML does not want to go for elections as it became weak in recent days.
CPN-UML has the glorious history of over six decades and has passed through different tests, which has been carrying rights policy. So the party like UML do not get shy from the election rather welcomes election. It will emerge as a major party and receive distinction during the upcoming election.
Many leaders have deserted the party. In this context how it will bring distinction?
You can see some leafs around the tree but the tree could not die because some leaves fall down. Similarly, the party will not face any problem if some leaders desert the party. The leaders, who deserted the party, are now regretting for their mistake. People’s Multi-party democracy is the best policy existing in the country.
Those who left the party will come back after realizing their mistake. You mentioned about some party but did not mention about thousand of leaders and cadres, who recently joined CPN-UML, so, you should look this aspect as well.
But Prachanda has been claiming that UML will reach to fourth position. How do you react?
Prachanda said that he can’t see the party named UML, but what can I say is that you have to search to find the identity of UCPN-Maoist after the November 19.
If UCPN-Maoist becomes the largest party?
I can’t imagine such issue. There was a time when there was influx of radical forces and such force spoiled the country and terrorized people. UCPN-Maoist emerged as the largest party as all people terrified by the party casted their vote to it. However the situation has changed now and it became clear about the ideology and actions of the party, so, the situation would be different in the upcoming elections of the constituent assembly. There is no future of UCPN-Maoist, so it might be third or fourth force in the upcoming election.
Are you confident that the election would take place even if CPN-Maoist is boycotting it?
Let’s not imagine about the scenario where the election would not take place. Mohan Baidya is very senior leaders, so, he will rethink about their stance and correct the decision of boycotting the elections. Election is essential for institutionalizing the achievements of people’s movement, so, CPN-Maoist should take part in the election and that is the wish of the people.
Then how do you address the concerns raised by them?
We are ready to hold discussion on any issue for holding the election on November 19. Our request is not to discard the election at any pretext.
Then will you be ready to dissolve the incumbent government?
The agenda of not holding the elections on November 19 and dissolving the government would not be acceptable to us. Similarly removing the 11-point agreement and 25-point presidential decree would not be acceptable. Apart from these we are ready to hold talks on all other issues.
Are you ready for round-table conference?
The round-table conference is taking place every day. When the political parties sit together that is the round-table conference and if CPN-Maoist take part on it that would be excellent.
Does the election take place even if CPN-Maoist does not take part in poll?
None of the force can stop the election from taking place. The election would take place on November 19 at any cost as all the people from East to West are in favor of holding the elections on November. People have concentrated on the elections, so, stopping the election would be against the will of the people.
When the general convention of CPN-UML would take place?
The general convention of the party would take place as per the statute passed by the eighth National Conference of the party. Current tenure of the elected representatives will end on February then the convention would take place. If the situation is favorable then the convention will take place immediately otherwise the tenure could be extended for one more year. So, it is not fixed when the convention will take place.
But senior leader of the party KP Sharma Oli has been demanding to conduct the general convention immediately.
Oli comrade has been moving through person centric ideology. He has demanded to conduct the convention immediately but that is not possible. The country has moved in the direction of election, so, it is the responsibility of all leaders and cadres to work for making the party number one in the election. If we concentrate on general convention leaving the prime agenda aside then we will be unsuccessful in the elections. So currently we should focus on the elections and would go for general convention after the election.
Then the Central Committee would not dissolve.
No, rather than dissolving the Central Committee, we should strengthen it. The central committee should be strengthened so that it would be able to take command in the elections of the constituent assembly. As the elections and the general convention are equally important we could not do it at a same time.
KP Oli has termed your leadership as unsuccessful, how do you react on it?
This is only because of problem in his mentality. Why should he raise the issue publicly as we might discuss the issue at the Central Committee of the Party? This is not the manner of responsible leader of the party. Such mentality would not help to increase his image. I will discuss the issue during upcoming central committee meeting.
Oli has been reiterating for changing the leadership before going to the elections of the constituent assembly as he believes the party will loose the election under your leadership.
The party is moving ahead with the concept of group leadership. There is no magic bullet with the people, who have been claiming that my leadership is not competent.
