KATHMANDU: Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Kedarnath Upadhyaya has said it is unfortunate that the women’s rights defenders themselves are falling victims to violence against women.
Speaking in the national women’s forum on the occasion of the conclusion of the 100-day campaign against violence against women here on March 18, he said the violence against women was a national problem.
He stressed the need for creating public awareness for building an environment to combat violence against women.
Central chairwoman of the National Network of Women’s Rights Defenders, Dr Renu Rajbhandari said only a few incidents of violence against women were reported and that was only the tip of an iceberg on the enormity of violence against women prevalent in society.
