Visiting BJP leader wishes timely drafting of constitution in Nepal


KATHMANDU: Visiting leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Ravi Shankar Prasad, who is also the Chief of foreign Department of the party, has said that India wishes to see an early drafting of new constitution through successful conduction of Constituent Assembly (CA) elections in Nepal.

Speaking at an interaction organized in the Capital on Sunday, he informed that basic characteristics should be included in the constitution to be drafted from the CA election. He however said that it is upto the Nepali people to decide the issue. Stating that cultural relations between Nepal and India is above the political relations, the BJP leader said that democratic Nepal should make the relations stronger.

The visiting leader, who is currently on a three-day visit to Nepal, said the main concern of Nepali political parties is to bring the disgruntled parties onboard the election process and made it clear that his country only wishes for successful conduction of the CA election s in slated time.

He stressed that there should be support of India in various aspects of economic development as per Nepal´s desire. Shankar did not mention about whether the country should be Hindu nation or secular but basic things such as freedom of judiciary, respect of parliament and democracy should not be missed out.

Before this, he met with chairman of the Interim Election Council, Khil Raj Regmi this morning and discussed on matters of mutual interest between the two countries.

Prasad, however, opined that, according to his experience, democracy, civil rights, independent judiciary, and democratic system would be best system. The India leader said India is ready to extend necessary support for the upcoming CA elections.

India has expressed readiness to support the upcoming elections of the constituent assembly slated for November 19 during the visits of senior leaders of major political parties. India invited senior leaders of major political parties and discussed the political situation of the country including the elections of the constituent assembly.
