
KATHMANDU: Visiting leader of India’s main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Ravi Shankar Prasad met President Ram Baran Yadav and senior political leaders on Saturday. Prasad, who is also the deputy leader of BJP in the Rajya Sabha, arrived in Kathmandu on Friday on a three day visit.
It is learnt that Nepal’s current political scenario and the November elections figured during his meeting with President Yadav at Shital Niwas. However, Prasad declined to talk with the media persons after his meeting with the President. It has been learned that the visiting BJP leader also met UCPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, UML senior leader KP Oli and Sadhbhawana Party Chairman Rajendra Mahato in the Capital today.
The BJP leader had arrived in Kathmandu on Friday to attend a seminar of Nepal-India Development Forum. Prasad also delivered a lecture on ‘Republic of Nepal: Emerging Hope and Scope’, during a function organized by Nepal-India Cooperation Forum. He is accompanied by Ajit Kumar, who looks after Nepal affairs at the BJP
At a time when Nepal is bracing for second Constituent Assembly election, his visit will let Nepali leaders understand BJP’s position. Some top leaders of Nepali political parties have visited India recently and hold discussion about the current political situation of the country and proposed elections of the constituent assembly. It is said that India has major say in the internal political affairs of the country.
