U.S. Under-Secretary of State for Democracy and Global Affairs Maria Otero has expressed her concern about Bhutanese and Tibetan refugees during her meeting the Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai at latter’s office Singhadurbar on Sunday. In response, PM Dr Bhattarai reiterate the government’s commitment to resolve the issues of the refugees.
During the meeting, Otero also expressed the concern on Nepal’s current political transition and the political parties’ efforts to forge the national consensus.
According to PM’s chief personal secretary Ganga Narayan Shrestha, Prime Minister Dr. Bhattarai informed Otero that the government is making efforts to declare the date for new election by forging consensus with opposition parties immediately and to take the peace process to conclusion. Otero has arrived Kathmandu on Saturday night in connection with her three-day official visit to Nepal.
US Ambassador to Nepal Peter W. Bodde, senior officials of Ministry of Foreign Affairs and US Embassy were also present during the meeting.
