N24 Correspondent, LOS ANGELES:- The US State Department has increased the passport application fee, effective December 27. Applicants applying for a passport for the first time so far have been paying a $ 110 application fee and a $35 application center fee of $145, which will be $165 after December 27.
The overall increase is 18 percent. The security fee has been increased by 33.33 percent. The fee has been increased in the name of the passport security fee. So far, the fee has been reduced from $60 to $80.
Since the center or agency accepting the passport application will charge a separate fee of $ 35, the first-time passport applicant will have to pay $165, and the passport book and card will have to pay $195 at the same time.
Passport renewal is still $110, but you will have to pay $130 after December 27. Similarly, when applying for a passport for children, it used to cost only $80, but now you have to pay a fee of $100. As the $35 passport applications will be taken by the center or agency, the total will be $135.
The tariff hike is expected to generate an additional $318 million annually for the government. About 16 million passports are expected to be issued in the fiscal year 2022.
