US Govt. annoucnes US$ 22.5m in assistance to quake


KATHMANDU: The United States has announced US$ 22.5 million in assistance to earthquake victims in Nepal. This is in addition to the US$2.5 million in assistance announced to the UN Food Program to help provide food to the quake victims.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, US Ambassador to Nepal Peter W. Bodde said they are prepared to extend all possible assistance to the earthquake victims as per the request made by the government of Nepal. A Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART) from the US is already in Kathmandu, performing search and rescue operations.

Ambassador Bodde said the excellent working relations with Nepal Army had made the team’s operation in Nepal more manageable . Ambassador Bodde said US $10 million has been allocated for airlifting victims and relief materials to remote districts. US army helicopters are also scheduled to arrive in Kathmandu in the next couple of days.
