N24 Correspondent, KATHMANDU:- US Envoy to Nepal Randy Berry has started a high-level political meeting in Kathmandu to brief President Joe Biden on his new foreign policy.

US Envoy Berry began a high-level meeting with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Friday and met with Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba on Monday. He is also scheduled to meet leaders of other political parties.

Envoy Berry tweeted after the meeting with Prachanda, “I have met with Prachanda in a series of meetings to discuss the priorities of the new administration. I reiterate the United States’ commitment to strengthening democracy, fighting climate change, and protecting the human rights of women and girls around the world. ”

The Biden administration has decided to re-enter the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, which was overturned by former President Donald Trump, a decision that will affect Nepal as well.

Envoy Berry expressed his desire to support Nepal’s high-priority Everest Dialogue. Nepal had planned to hold the dialogue last year with the aim of taking the lead on climate change agendas, but it was not possible due to the Covid-19 transition.

Similarly, during the meeting with Nepali leaders, Envoy Berry also expressed the US desire to work closely with Nepal to fight against COVID-19. “Women’s and children’s rights are another important priority for the United States,” Berry told leaders.
