KATHMANDU: Failure at the part of the Interim Election Government to announce the date for holding the new election of the constituent assembly has been the issue of concern for all stakeholders. Not only national stakeholders foreigners were also disturbed by the indecisiveness of the political parties.
US Ambassador to Nepal Peter Bodde has called on coordinator of High-level Political Mechanism and Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala at his residence in Maharajgunj and discussed the issue of election and current political situation.
During the meeting, the envoy expressed concern over the delay in announcement of election date, and urged Koirala to do his bit to declare election date. Months after the formation of a non-partisan government, an election date has not been fixed, Bodde reminded Koirala. On the occasion, Ambassador Bodde wished for institutional development of federal democratic republic of Nepal through election.
In response, NC President Sushil Koirala has expressed belief that consensus will be forged on the issue of election soon, as discussion is underway among political parties for the amendment of laws needed for election and declaration of the date for next Constituent Assembly(CA) election.
Koirala said that some parties have expressed their dissatisfaction on the formation of the incumbent government and added that declaration for the date of CA election is delayed as talks is underway to address their demands.
