Unidentified group smashed by Buddha statues in Nepal

BUTWAL: An unidentified group has broken and damaged the Buddha statues installed at various spots along the highway here last night.
The unruly group damaged five statues from Nayamill to Shankarnagar section of the highway, Tilottama Municipality stated. The municipality had installed the Buddha’s statues on the divider section of the Siddhartha highway.
“The municipality has already informed the police about the incident. The statues have been smashed in a similar fashion at night time, so it looks like the incident was preplanned and intentional,” municipality spokesman Surendra Shree said.
Police has started investigation into the incident.
Tilottama municipality had started the campaign of installing Buddha’s statues on the divider of the highway coinciding with the Visit Lumbini Year 2019 announced by the State-5 government.
