KATHMANDU: After the decision of party vice-chairperson Dr. Baburam Bhattarai to step down from all the party positions, UCPN-Maoist has been finding very hard to maintain the party portfolios as the new development of the party has posed moral pressure to party chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal to step down from the leadership.
However efforts are still on to have some face-saver to the party leadership to retain in the posts as most of the leaders have been running after the posts after the party joined the mainstream politics following the success of April Uprising of 2006.
Talking to a team of the party aligned student wing–All Nepal National Independent Student Union- Revolutionary ( ANNISU-R ) on Monday, Bhattarai said he would continue to engage in the party and its activities despite his resignation. He said it was not necessary to remain in party position to work for the party. During the meeting, the ANNISU-R submitted a three -point memorandum to Bhattarai urging him to take back his resignation.
He also ruled out that there was no truth on the rumor that his quitting of party post was due to dispute surfaced in the party. Bhattarai said that there was no any dispute in the party and he was ready to fulfill any responsibility of the party, said Vice-Chairman of ANNISU-Revolutionary, Jagrit Rayamajhi, quoting Bhattarai.
As Bhattarai was discontent with the promotion of juniors to key party posts by Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda, he quit from his post as part of a strategy to regain influence inside the party rank, according to analysts
Dr. Bhattarai is taken as a think-tank in the party and his decision to quit from the party position might hamper the party in the upcoming elections of the constituent assembly. Dr. Bhattarai has many times foiled the attempt of party president to assassinate his political carrier in different excuses. It is believed that Dr. Bhattarai played important role to join the political mainstream leaving the bloody war that has claimed lives of over 13 thousand people.
