UCPN-Maoist hopes to do better in upcoming CA poll; decides to launch 2nd phase of campaign

KATHMANDU: The central committee meeting of the UCPN-Maoist has ended with a conclusion that the party could achieve greater victory in the coming Constituent Assembly (CA) election once the party became internally united. Similarly the party as decided to launch second phase of its election campaign targeting the November 19 election, in which with top leaders will focus their activities in areas where the party position is reportedly weak.

The party is preparing to formulate a plan on the basis of reports presented by leaders deployed to the 240 electoral constituencies to assess the party’s strength at the grassroots level. All the leaders presented their reports at the party’s ongoing Central Committee meeting. Leaders addressing the meeting said the first round of campaign helped organize the party structure.

Most of the speakers in the meeting held at party headquarters Koteshwor said the party would achieve the success more than expected, as the people’s aspiration and expectation was still with the party.

Central member Keshav Nepal said, “The one-month long public relations campaign of the party has shown that our party is sure to achieve highest number of votes for the institutionalization of political agenda and economic prosperity. But what party needs is internal management.”

The party leaders have suggested that the next round of campaign is necessary to clear confusions about the party at the grassroots level. “On the basis of the situation projected by the leaders, Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal will prepare a concrete electoral policy within a couple of days and present it at the CC meet,” party spokesperson Agni Sapkota said.

The party is also preparing to finalize its election manifesto soon, incorporating the suggestions provided by leaders. Earlier, the party formed a committee under Baburam Bhattarai to draft the manifesto. The party is ready to begin candidate selection for the polls. The party recently formed production brigade in an attempt to shine the party’s image to the general public as the party is defamed by unruly activities of party cadres and lavish lifestyle of party leaders.
