UCPN-Maoist forging electoral alliance with Madhesi and Janajati groups

ITAHARI: One day after he completed the India visit, chairperson of UCPN-Maoist Pushpa Kamal Dahal has informed that his party will forge electoral alliance with Madhesi and Janajati groups in the upcoming elections.

Addressing a mass meeting at Itahari, held to mark the International Labour Day in the district on Wednesday, Dahal added that a joint front of Maoists, Madhesis and Janajati groups will be formed in the elections

He also added that they need a majority to draft the new constitution so they are having discussion to form electoral alliance for making the majority.

Prachanda also tried to woo people of Eastern Development Region with pledges that he had requested the Indian and Chinese leaders for increasing the investment in the eastern region.

Saying that electricity was not enough to operate industries along the Sunsari-Morang corridor, the UCPN (Maoist) Chairman added that he discussed with the Indian leadership regarding the import of 50 MW of electricity from India.

Dahal went on to assure that his party would take initiatives in constructing an international airport in the eastern region.

Speaking at the same program, UCPN-Maoist vice chairperson Dr. Baburam Bhattarai described the possible electoral alliance between Nepali Congress and the UML as ‘unprincipled’. “The UML should not go with the NC if it wants to preserve whatever is left of communist principles,” he said.

Bhattarai also claimed that his party would boost the country’s per capita income to USD 3000 if the Maoist party gets a chance to rule the country for a decade.
