UCPN-Maoist CC yet to hammer out differences; CC meeting of CPN-Maoist from Saturday

KATHMANDU: The ongoing Central Committee (CC) meeting of UCPN-Maoist could not make any decision regarding the new appointments in the party’s crucial posts and bodies on Friday also due to dispute among central committee leaders.

Today’s meeting was expected to finalize all the issues related to the appointment of office bearers and members of Standing committee, politburo and CC. The meeting, however, ended inconclusively with an understanding to sit for tomorrow as the CC members could not forge an agreement.

Most of the speakers of today’s meeting criticized the proposal put forth by the party chairperson proposing to continue current office bearers and appointing four party secretaries and a treasure.

In the proposal, Krishna Bahadur Mahara has been put forth as a senior secretary and Barshaman Pun, Top Bahadur Rayamajhi and Giriraj Mani Pokharel as secretaries, while the name of Hisila Yami has been proposed for treasurer.

As the mother party is still finding it hard to find consensus for appointments in the key portfolios of the party, the break-away faction the Mohan Baidya-led CPN-Maoist is going to hold its central committee meeting in Pokhara from Saturday.

The party has called the meeting at Matepani-based Marphali Thakali Sewa Sadan, Pokhara, and that as many as 203 leaders including 151 CC members and 52 advisors of the party would participate in the meeting.

The meeting will clarify party’s position on the elections apart from dividing the responsibilities to the party leaders. The party would hold extensive discussion in the context that the government has declared date for the Constituent Assembly (CA) election for November 19. The party had led the alliance of fringe parties for opposing the elections but majority of the parties are leaving the alliance and standing in favor of taking part in the election.
