UCPN-M‚ allies want HLPC formed within 24 hrs

KATHMANDU: Federal Republican Alliance, a joint allaince of the UCPN-Maoist and Madhesh-based parites, has warned that they would obtruct the business of the Parliament if the government did not form the High Level Political Committee (HLPC) within 24 hours.

A meeting held between the main opposition party UCPN-M and Madhesi parties at Singhadurbar this morning decided that they would obstruct the proceedings of the Parliament from Wednesday if the government did not implement the four-point pact signed earlier.

Earlier on Sunday, UCPN-Maoist had walked out of the three party meet after the ruling Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML rejected the idea of forming HLPC under the UCPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

During the meeting, the two ruling coalition parties—NC and UML said that a committee outside the Parliament does not have any meaning.

The ruling parties have informed that the demand of the UCPN-M has already been fulfilled after the formation of Constitutional-Political Dialogue and Consensus Committee of the Constitutent Assembly under the headship of the UCPN-M senior leader Baburam Bhattarai.
