KATHMANDU: The Tilathi Koiladi rural municipality-1 in Saptari district of state 2, has been declared as child-marriage free zone.
State 2 minister for land management, agriculture and cooperatives, Shailendra Prasad Shah planted a tree sapling on the premises of ward office amidst a programme here recently, as the symbol of the declaration that onwards no case of child marriage would be reported in the ward.
On the occasion, the minister said child marriage could never bring a good result in the society and contribute to social transformation, rather, it would decrease the quality of life. He was of the view that dowry system had also promoted the child marriage. Stating that preparations were underway to ensure educational insurance of Rs 125,000 under the ‘save daughter, educate daughter’ campaign in the state, he said social development would pave the way for all other sorts of development. At the programme organised by the Save the Children and Save the Saptari programme, ward chair Dineshwor Mishra said there are 930 households at the ward and till the 11 months of the current fiscal year, 28 cases of marriage have been reported, and among them, four are the incidences of child marriage. Marriage before completing 20 years of age is unlawful in the country, he shared, speaking of the strictly following the rule.
