The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) expresses sorrow over Baniya’s death

KATHMANDU:- The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has expressed sorrow over the demise of former secretary of FNJ, Balram Baniya.

A press release issued by FNJ on Wednesday reads, “Appreciating the incomparable contribution of journalist Baniya in favor of democracy, human rights, rule of law, press freedom, journalists’ security and people’s right through journalism sector, FNJ extended heartfelt tributes to late Baniya.”

Baniya, who had a significant contribution to Nepali journalism for the past three decades, was working as assistant editor of Kantipur National Daily. His body was found stuck in the filter of the Mandu hydroelectricity project at Sisneri, Bhimphedi rural municipality in Makawanpur district on Wednesday, said police.

He was out of contact from August 10 from Kathmandu. The FNJ has demanded the government to carry out an investigation into the incident of the mysterious death of Baniya. It also extended condolences towards the bereaved family members.
