‘Term of President, PM should be only one year’
JANAKPUR: Senior leader of the CPN (UML) Madhav Kumar Nepal has said that a provision should be made fixing the term of office of the President, the Vice-President, the Speaker and the Prime Minister for only one year.
Talking to media persons at Janakpur Airport today, the former Prime Minister said that discussions among political parties were underway for the amendment of the constitution for the same.
Nepal said that corruption should be stopped by holding local bodies’ election on time as it would take five years to finalize all issues of the federalism. Responding to a query, he said it was necessary to hold local polls by June.
Stating that constitution should be promulgated within a year on the basis of consensus by holding discussions on the remaining issues after taking the agreement reached in the erstwhile Constituent Assembly (CA) as a draft, the senior leader stressed that the government should accelerate its works.
On a different note, Nepal said doors are open for anybody to contest in any posts in the party’s general convention, adding that but cadres would choose the capable individual.
