
NAWALPARASI: Sugar cane farmers of western Nawalparasi again have launched different protest programme demanding release of their due payment. The farmers in the district each year protest demanding payment of their produce, as sugar mill continue to cheat farmers in different pretexts.
The Lumbini Sugar Industry, Bagmati Sugar Industry, Indira Sugar Mills and Mohini Sugar Industry are the major sugarcane industries in west Nawalparasi and are failing to clear the dues to the farmers.
The farmers shared that they have to get payment of over 500 million rupees from these sugar mills since previous years. According to Chairman of sugarcane producing committee Umesh Chandra Yadav, they are demanding to announce the market price of sugarcane and get their due amount paid by the sugar mills immediately.
About 10 thousand families are involved in sugarcane farming in western Nawalparasi. They annually produce around two million quintals of sugarcane.
