Sri-Lanks clinches the title of First South Asian Volleyball Tournament


KATHMANDU: Sri Lanka clinched the title of the first South Asian Invitational Men´s Volleyball Tournament on Monday.

Sri Lanka defeated the Maldives by three straight sets – 25-22, 25-19 and 25-23 to secure its victory in a match held at National Sports Council (NSC) covered hall in the capital.

Sri Lanka’s Jenitha was declared the best players of the tournament. Sri Lanka remained unbeaten without being losing a single match over the tournament.

The tournament organized by Nepal Volleyball Association was played on round robin basis with the participation of four nations including Nepal and Afghanistan. Three strong teams of South Asian Region India, Bangladesh and Pakistan did not take part in the event.

Like in the other international tournament, Nepali team was projected as the winning team but in vein. Despite much rumors Nepali players have not been able to show good performance at the International Level.
