MANCHESTER:- Due to Silva’s significant contribution, City won 10 titles during his tenure. The English Premier League club also made a formal announcement on Monday.
He last played for the club in the European Champions League quarter-final defeat to Lyon. Silva, 34, has won four Premier League, two FA Cup and five League Cups for City. In 2010 he signed for City after Spanish club Valencia.
Silva scored 60 goals in 309 Premier League games. He also played in City’s record 70 European club football games. City chief Khaldun al-Mubarak said: “Silva is a very high level player, he played a leading role in the team. Overall, he made a strong contribution not only to City, but also to the Premier League. ‘
City had earlier decided to place a statue of Belgian defender Vincent Kompany outside the stadium. Kompany spent 11 years in the city. Next year, a special program will be inaugurated between the two statues. “We want to respect our players,” Mubarak said. Silva, meanwhile, has signed a two-season deal with Spanish La Liga club Real Sociedad.
