Ritu Ramdam, NEW YORK: In the program organized by the local woman right activist the Minister of Women, Children and Social Welfare Neelam KC has to face difficult situation with the Nepalese women living in USA. The peaceful situation instantly changed into anguish when the minister rejected the proposal of the activist Sita Kharel asking her to support them for continuing their Nepalese citizenship. The demand outraged the minister KC. Without getting control herself minister KC screamed in agony by asking cross question “ why do you need dual citizenship?’’ The minister KC also remarked in satirical way that they all like to live in USA and wants to hold Nepali citizenship too. She remarked strongly that she couldn’t support such proposal and will be always against such thoughts. Debates mixed with disputes and arguments were continuous from the minister as well as the participant’s side till the end when the minister left the program. The minister KC got sadden with the organizer and commented that they asked to have meal and did something else. While minister is about to leave the program without having meal the activist and the organizer Sita Kharel catch her hand and requested to have meal, the minister KC rejected rudely and threatened her to call police to arrest them.
Yesterday at Thakali Kitchen located at Jackson Height there was a gathering with Nepalese Women participants at the 59th session of the Commission on the Status of Women. During the meeting the commissioner Yashoda Timsina of National Information Commission explained about the task carried by the commission regarding the establishment of rights of information among the Nepalese citizens. She further added that the commission has focused on the rights of information regarding the corruption issues these days. As it’s very risky business to pursue the corruption related subject but still they won’t leave any attempt for anti-corruption activities.
Other participants the president of the Sathi (NGO working to eliminate injustice and violence against and women and children in Nepal) Bandana Rana raised her curiosity regarding the Nepali residing in USA. She was bit sadden by the separated members of same family for many years in USA and Nepal.
Senior editor Babita Basnet complained that the participants from the Nepal attending the 59TH session of CSW aren’t getting positive response from the Nepalese mission at New York. She is sadden for not getting normal reception while participating in such an important programs .Likewise ,another journalist Manisha Ghimire expressed that the Nepalese journalist has tried their best to create the pressure to complete the constitution writing process on time though it failed .
