KATHMANDU: A Tibetan activist died after setting himself on fire in Bouddha, on Tuesday morning protesting the Chinese rule over Tibet. The identification of the deceased is yet to be ascertained. However, the person is believed to have been a physically disabled person.
According to police, the activist set himself on fire near a passage at Boudhanath Stupa. He was declared dead soon after he was brought for treatment at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) in Maharajgunj.
According to police, the man, who was rushed to Maharajgunj-based Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) following the incident was declared dead at around 8:15 am. This is the second case of self immolation by Tibetan activists.
The Tibetan who self-immolated in February died. More than 100 Tibetans in their ancestral homeland or nearby Chinese regions have self-immolated since 2011 to protest Chinese rule or to call for their spiritual leader the Dalai Lama to return to Tibet. Nepal has beefed up security in the Capital taking into consideration the probable protest programs by Tibetans.
