BIRATNAGAR: Torrential rainfall in eastern hilly districts has resulted in significant increase in the water inflow in Saptakoshi River at Koshi Barrage.
According to the Barrage control authorities, the water inflow rate rose to 342,000 cusec on Friday, from Thursday’s 251,000 cusec. This is the record high inflow of water in the barrage in last three years.
38 sluice gates of the barrage have been opened to ease the water outflow.
The area around the barrage was kept on high alert after the water level in the River started increasing from Wednesday, owing to incessant rainfall.
Chief District Officer Sudarshan Dhakal said security bodies including Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and Nepal Army have been kept stand-by, keeping in view the increasing water level in the River, ‘which could invite a disaster at any moment’.
