Rs 3 billion required to complete post-earthquake reconstruction work in Nepal


KATHMANDU:A total of 780,165 private houses were damaged in the earthquake 2015. Out of which, 482,323 houses so far have been reconstructed and the remaining 18,941 houses are currently being rebuilt said CEO of National Reconstruction Authority (NRA), Sushil Gyewali, in a press conference held on Thursday in Kathmandu.

Gyewali told that within the four years of NRA’s establishment, 83 percent progress has been made in the post-earthquake reconstruction of structures such as houses, schools, government buildings, health institutions and cultural heritages.
According to him, Rs 335 billion has been spent in reconstruction works so far where it received Rs 293 billion from the government and donor agencies along with Rs 42 billion from INGOs . Gyewali stated that the NRA requires Rs 3 billion to complete the remaining reconstruction works.
In the conference, it was informed that a total of 5,380 schools have been rebuilt out of 7,553 damaged schools; 387 heritages structures out of 891 damaged heritages; 665 health institutions out of 1197 earthquake-hit health institutions, while 149 are in progress. Moreover, out of 415 government buildings, 359 have been reconstructed and the reconstruction of 49 buildings is under progress.
