Republica scribe bags GP Koirala Journalism award


Kathmandu, March 29: Reporters’ Club Nepal is to present this year’s the Girija Prasad Koirala Memorial Senior Journalism Award to Ameet Dhakal, Chief Editor of the English language National Daily, Republica.

 

A meeting of the Award Selection Committee of the Club held on Thursday decided to confer the award comprising Rs. 100,000 and a copper plaque on journalist Dhakal, recognizing his dedication to the practice of free, fair and professional journalism, and press freedom for the past couple of years.

 

Likewise, the Club has decided to give away the Tarini Prasad Koirala Memorial Journalism Award to Kiran Pokharel, News Bureau Chief of Annapurna Post Daily. The award, carrying a purse of Rs. 30,000, was instituted in memory of freedom fighter and founder of the Radio Nepal, Tarini Prasad Koirala.

 

Similarly, the Club has decided to provide the Krishna Sen Ichchhuk Memorial Journalism Award of Rs. 20,000 to Shubha Shanker Kandel of ABC Television for his long involvement in journalism sector through struggle amidst risk.

 

It was decided to hand over the Babuchhiri Sherpa Memorial Photo Journalism Award consisting of Rs. 20,000 to Shaligram Tiwari of Kantipur Daily while the Uma Singh Memorial Journalism Award that carries a purse of Rs. 20,000 to Editor of Ghatana Ra Bichar Weekly, Babita Basnet.

 

The awards will be handed over amid a programme on Friday marking the 14th anniversary of the Reporters’ Club. RSS
