KATHMANDU: At a time one of the constituents of the four party alliance Nepali Congress has been demanding resignation of chairperson of the Interim Election Government Khil Raj Regmi from the post of Chief Justice, Chairperson of the UCPN-Maoist Pushpa Kamal Dahal and chairperson of the Interim Election Government Regmi held talks at the latter’s official residence in Baluwatar on Tuesday.
During the meeting, the duo discussed a range of issues regarding the election process and latest political situation. They discussed the efforts being made to forge consensus regarding the contents of the electoral ordinances proposed by the Election Commission for the Constituent Assembly (CA) election and announcement of date for the same.
It has been learnt that the duo exchanged views on the works of the government and the political parties needed to do for ensuring an environment for the election.
Meanwhile, speaking at a program in the Capital on Tuesday, UCPN-Maoist Chairperson Dahal said that any attempt to seek the replacement of the Regmi government at this time would only lead the country to a disaster.
“It will be too early to look for the replacement of the Khil Raj Regmi-led government. It is unfortunate that the very political parties who agreed to the 11-point and the 25-point deals have started talking about seeking Regmi’s alternative,” Dahal added.
He also informed that the new election date will be announced on Wednesday with view to holding the elections in November. He also claimed that an agreement to that effect was made during his meeting with Chairman of Interim Election Council of Ministers Regmi earlier in the morning.
He further said it is only for the sake of fringe parties that his party has been standing against keeping the provision of the proposed 10 per cent proportional representation (PR) threshold.
