KATHMANDU: At a time when the government has been facing criticism for not announcing the date for the election of the constituent assembly, chairperson of Interim Election Government Khil Raj Regmi gave continuity to high-level political parleys Wednesday morning by holding discussion with top leaders of UCPN-Maoist.
During the meeting Regmi urged the Maoist chief to create an enabling atmosphere for holding the elections of the constituent assembly. Regmi was referring for convincing the agitating political parties for taking part in the elections.
Regmi, who has started political consultation to forge understanding among the parties to declare fresh date for polls at the earliest, had on Tuesday held consultation with top leaders of CPN-UML, Madheshi front and fringe parties and on Monday with Nepali Congress leaders on the same issue.
The IEC chairman has lately intensified consultation with political parties to seek suggestions on ways to lure agitating fringe parties into participating in the upcoming polls and suitable date for holding the election.
Meanwhile, addressing a program on Wednesday, Regmi called on CPN-Maoist to take part in the elections of the constituent assembly. The alliance of 33-political parties, including CPN-Maoist, has been protesting the idea of holding the CA election by the Chief Justice led government.
