Regmi and Bodde discuss CA polls and latest political development; Regmi leaving for New York tomorrow

KATHMANDU: One day before the Chairperson of the Interim Election Government Khil Raj Regmi is heading to New York to attend 68th General Assembly of the United Nations, the American Ambassador to Nepal Peter W. Bodde paid a courtesy call to Chairperson Regmi on Wednesday and discussed the latest political development of the country.

During the meeting the duo discussed on latest political development, preparation of the Constituent Assembly Election and the ongoing 68th General Assembly of the United Nations in New York, among others. Chairperson Regmi appraised the US envoy about the assiduous endeavors being initiated to include all the parties to the electoral process and atmosphere for the same.

In response, the US Ambassador commended Chairman Regmi’s active role in preparing election-related work and termed it as an achievement. The US envoy further said that it was undemocratic to create obstacle to the polls. Despite opposition from 33-party alliance the government is moving ahead for the election of the constituent assembly slated for November 19. The international community hailed the decision of four major political parties and the government to conduct election on the stipulated time and requesting the poll opposing parties to take part in the election.

Meanwhile, despite opposition from different quarters, chairperson of Interim Election Government Regmi is leaving for New York on Thursday to attend the 68th session of the United Nations General Assembly. The IEC chair will be leading the Nepali delegation to UN assembly.

He is scheduled to address the UNGA on September 28 and attend other high-level meetings during his brief sojourn in New York before returning home on September 30, according to the itinerary. Regmi will be accompanied by his spouse and close aides. Members of the Nepali delegation include Foreign Secretary Arjun Bahadur Thapa, Chief of UN Division at the Ministry, Deepak Dhital and Joint-Secretary at the Division, Bishnu Gautam, according to the Foreign Ministry. Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations and other officials of the Permanent Mission will join the delegation in New York
