Registration of DV lottery 2015 to open from October 1

KATHMANDU: The registration for Diversity Visa (DV) lottery 2015 is beginning on October 1. Issuing a press statement in Kathmandu, the U.S. Embassy informed that the application period for the 2015 DV program will be until November 2.

With a hope to migrate to the U.S., thousands of Nepalis apply for the lottery program every year. The entries for the lottery are to be submitted electronically at www.dvlottery.state.gov during the one-month period.

The entrants will have to check whether they have been selected for the DV by logging on to www.dvlottery.state.gov after May 1, 2014, the Embassy said.

The embassy has asked aspirants to follow the electronic process while submitting applications. DV lottery winners must have completed minimum twelve years of formal education, or equivalent, to qualify for a visa. Vocational degrees, including from the Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT), will only count if they are accepted in Nepal as a basis for further academic study in all institutes of higher education. Vocational degrees that allow limited admission to selected programs are not considered twelve years of formal education for the purposes of the DV program, the embassy informed.

Though the application is free of cost, local businesses charge the aspirants some money as service charge to help them fill up electronic form. Many such consultancies have started recruiting staffs for one month for filling the lottery form.

Over six thousand Nepalis have been selected in the preliminary opening of the lottery 2014. As the country is passing through political transition and there are very limited employment opportunities many people opt for filling such lotteries. Around 1,500 Nepalis have been leaving the country every day in search of better opportunities abroad.
