Ram-Sita marriage festival is being celebrated in Janakpur today


JANAKPUR:- Wedding Panchami festival is being celebrated today as the day of marriage of Sita (Janaki), daughter of Prince Ram of Ayodhya and King Janak of Mithila in Treta Yuga. In Janakpur, there is a big fair. Wedding Panchami is celebrated weekly in Janakpur.

Its main attraction is today’s symbolic marriage of Ram (Janaki). Matkor, Tilakotsav, Swayamvara and marriage rites are performed according to the culture of Mithila during the celebration of the festival. It is kept in a well-equipped dola and taken to the arena.

After the marriage ceremony is performed in the arena, Sita (Ram) is brought to Janaki temple. After that, according to Mithila culture, the marriage is consummated.
