DOHA: Qatar will stage a pan-Arab tournament in late 2021 as a preparatory event for the 2022 World Cup, the Qatar Football Association (QFA) and FIFA said on Thursday.
The invitational tournament for 22 Arab nations from Africa and Asia will be held from December 1 to 18, 2021, and will be played outside the International Match Calendar. According to the QFA, all the matches will be played at the stadiums developed for the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar. “The creation of this pan-Arab tournament reinforces our longstanding commitment that the FIFA World Cup 2022 will be a tournament that benefits the entire Arab world, one that showcases the beauty of the region and the immense passion that exists for the game,” said H.E. Hassan Al Thawadi, Secretary-General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy and Chairman of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 LLC.
