Publicity stunt of UCPN-Maoist leaders; senior leaders of party held interaction with flood victims of western Nepal


DHANGADHI: UCPN-Maoist party, which became defamed for it unruly activities and lavish lifestyle after it joined the political mainstream in 2006, has been trying to brighten its image to the public through different publicity stunts. In similar bid UCPN-Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and party’s senior leaders on Saturday visited the places ravaged by the recent floods in the Mahakali River.

Earlier rather than reaching to the public for their support, the party leaders expressed their anger over the former Monarch Gynandra Shah’s bid to put balm at the wounds of flood victims. Chairman Dahal was flanked by fellow leaders Baburam Bhattarai, Posta Bahadur Bogati, Shakti Basnet, Haribol Gajurel and Nabraj Subedi.

The UCPN-Maoist leaders visited Bhujela of Bhimdutta Municipality, Piparaiya and Dodhara Chandani, which were hardly hit by the flood of June this year. However these days the situation returned to normalcy after various organizations provided relief materials to flood victims.

Talking to the locals on the occasion, Dahal assured of complete support and assistance from the party for the rehabilitation of the flood-displaced people. He also said that efforts were underway to construct a bridge over the Mahakali River on the Nepali side and added that he has raised the issue of constructing a dry port in Dodhara Chandani area with the Indian leaders during his recent India visit and that the Indian leaders were positive about the matter.

The former Prime Minister also said that maximum efforts would be taken to address the problems of the flood victims. Dahal also held separate interactions with the party cadres in Dodhara and Mahendranagar today itself. The leaders went to the flood affected areas to win the hearts of people by providing sympathy to them taking into consideration the elections of the Constituent Assembly slated for November 19. The party distributed false promises to the people and led the country towards crisis after it joined the political stream.

Meanwhile, the UCPN-Maoist has been forced to call off general strike announced by the party protesting the arrest of its cadres allegedly involved in murder of Krishna Prasad Adhikari of Gorkha district. The party withdrew the strike following protest from locals in different areas of Kathmandu as the bandh was coincided with Teej festival, the greatest festival of Hindu women.
