President Yadav urges major parties to initiate efforts for bringing dissenting parties for poll

KATHMANDU: Although the government has announced November 19 as the date for holding the elections of the constituent assembly, President Ram Baran Yadav has urged the major four political parties to continue talks and discussions with the dissatisfied political parties and leaders and bring them to the consensus politics.

The President made this call at a time when the leaders of major political parties did not initiate talks with the dissenting groups and did not initiate efforts for creating conducive environment for poll. President made this statement during his discussion with Nepali Congress Acting President Ram Chandra Poudel at the President’s office, Sheetal Niwas on Wednesday. President Dr Yadav also asked them to gear up the atmosphere for Constituent Assembly elections so that all parties would participate in it.

President Yadav also suggested both government and the major parties to expedite election atmosphere to ensure participation of all parties. The duo also held discussion about preparation of new budget by the incumbent government. Poudel extended full support to the budget prepared by the government. He said that there was no objection from NC once the budget was brought, focusing on the needs of the people. He added that he also reminded the President about the negative effects of partial budgets in the national economy.

“I do not intend to voice concern over the formulation of full-fledged budget but I have recommended that the election government should not unveil budget containing new policies and programs having long-term effect,” Poudel quoted Present Yadav as saying.

Poudel also acquired information about the President’s health during the discussion, and said the President has no any health problem now.

On another note, Acting President Poudel said that determining the electoral constituencies shouldn’t go beyond past precedents.

In a different context, Poudel said that the parties and the government should not go far from the past precedents while determining the electoral constituencies. He made it clear that the party has wished that the electoral constituency delimitation commission should limit its works only on 35 seats without expanding 205 constituencies considering the population growth in the country.
