‘President should not be activated’

KATHMANDU: Speakers in a programme organized by the Human Rights and Peace Society (HURPES) here on Monday cautioned the political parties against making the President active in the current complex political situation.

They were speaking in a seminar titled – Foundation of Democracy and Peace: Stable, Cordial and Amiable Relations among Communities.

Political analyst Shyam Shrestha warned that the country might get entrapped into a vicious conflict if the big political parties tried to activate the President and unnecessarily drag him into politics.

Member of the now defunct Constituent Assembly, Gagan Thapa, urged the political parties to make introspection as to why the CA failed rather than sitting idly that all has ended.

Director of Amnesty Nepal, Rameshwar Phuyal, said the failure of the republic has been proved with the dissolution of the Constituent Assembly. He urged everyone to think about the alternatives of the republic. RSS
