President confers medals to different personalities; Gajurel seeks President’s help for round-table conference


KATHMANDU: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has honoured a total of 136 persons from different medals as announced by the government on the occasion of the Republic Day, 2070 BS.

President Dr Yadav presented Sukirtimaya Rastrapadiya Medal to four persons, Suprabal Janasewashree to 52 persons, Prabal Janasewashree to 64 and Janasewashree to 16 persons. The recipients of the awards include civil servants, dignitaries, media persons and social workers.

Chancellor of Nepal Fine Arts Academy Kiran Manandhar, Vice-Chancellor of Academy of Nepal Music and Drama Prachanda Malla, Chief of Army Staff Gaurav Shumsher JBR and Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank Dr Yubraj Khatiwada were honored from Sukirtimaya Rastrapadiya Medal.

Vice-President Parmananda Jha, Chairperson of the Interim Election Council of Ministers Khil Raj Regmi, Chiefs of constitutional bodies and high-level government officials were present at the medal distribution program. The president is distributing awards to various personalities on the occasion of Republic Day every year.

Meanwhile, addressing a program in the Capital on Thursday, vice-chairperson of CPN-Maoist CP Gajurel has called on the President to facilitate the process of holding the round-table conference to give political way-out to the country.

He further said that his party would not accept the political roundtable without constitutional provision. The dissenting leader rubbished the purported roundtable stressing the need to constitute provision of such roundtable in the Interim Constitution.

On a note to poll date deferral, he said that four major political forces should ready to defer the November 19 elections if they opt the elections with consensus. However, he reiterated the need to resolve the contentions regarding the current government and poll date deferral through roundtable conference.

He also claimed that mobilizing army is declaring state emergency and it would take the country towards confrontation rather than giving way-out to the current political stalemate dogging the country.
