By Usha Wagle Gautam, DOHA: HE the Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al-Thani met Nepal’s Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Bamdev Gautam on the sidelines of the 13th UN Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice yesterday.
During the meeting, both leaders lauded the “excellent bilateral relations” between the two countries and discussed matters of mutual interest, including increasing the demand for skilled manpower from Nepal and attracting Qatari investment to Nepal in the hydropower and infrastructure sectors.
HE Sheikh Abdullah praised the Nepalese community for being diligent, hardworking and disciplined.
Lakshmi Prasad Dhakal, joint secretary from the Nepalese Ministry of Home Affairs, Ganesh Prasad Dhakal, charge d’affaires at Nepal’s embassy, and Ananda Subedi, personal assistant to Gautam, were also present during the meeting.
Deputy PM Gautam also addressed the 13th crime congress yesterday. He highlighted the event’s significance in the context of the international community being engaged in the framing of the post-2015 development agenda.
He emphasised the need for a common approach to identify and address new forms and dimensions of transnational crimes and opined that an enhanced and better understanding at the national, regional and international levels was critical in this regard.
Also on the occasion, Gautam expressed Nepal’s commitment to the principles of a fair, impartial and accountable criminal justice system.
