Prachanda pleads majority in the CA; NC to form parliamentarian board for selecting candidates

KATHMANDU: As the major political parties have been mulling to hold the elections of the constituent assembly (CA), different political parties have started their preparations for the CA election. In this connection, chairperson of the UCPN-Maoist Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has urged one and all to give a clear majority to his party to institutionalize the people’s rights through the upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) election.

Welcoming different leaders from other parties at the party headquarters in Paris Danda today, Dahal urged voters to give a clear majority to the pro-people forces. He said that the people should suffer again if the pro-people forces were weakened in the election.

Chairperson of the party, who got encouraged from the positive response of CPN-Maoist to take part in the election, Dahal said that the poll-opposing parties would join the election process gradually as the High Level Police Committee was committed to bringing them on board election.

On the occasion, CPN-Maoist leader and former division vice-commander of the PLA Santosh Chaudhary and Nepali Congress leader Basanta Shrestha, among others joined the UCPN-Maoist.

The political parties have been blaming each other for failure to promulgate the new constitution by the first election of the constituent assembly and requesting people to give clear majority in the upcoming CA poll to ensure promulgation of new constitution. The parties have been mulling to form electoral alliance with different political parties close to their ideology to ensure promulgation of new constitution in their favor.

Meanwhile, the Nepali Congress (NC) has informed that it will form the Parliamentary Board and select the party’s candidates for the Constituent Assembly (CA) election.

The party confirmed that it already received recommendations on potential candidates from all the districts and also urged the party leaders and cadres, who have come to Kathmandu to lobby for their candidacy, to go back to their respective districts.

“The gatherings of district leaders at the central office and leaders’ residences have disturbed the election preparation,” said the party’s central office Chief Secretary Chin Kaji Shrestha in a statement today. The party directed them to accelerate election run-up programs at local levels.
