Politicos open about coronavirus infection

Sharad Sharma, KATHMANDU:- After the Kathmandu Valley has been hotspot of spread of coronavirus of late with more than 2,000 plus spike for four consecutive days, even the political leaders and media persons and artists have tested positive to the virus.
As the advisors to the Prime Minister tested positive to the coroanvirus last Friday, they informed the public about it and suggested those in close contact with them to undergone PCR test and stay alert and safe.
Chief Political Advisor Bishnu Rimal wrote in social media, “I tested positive for coronavirus. I kindly request all who were in close contact with me to take care of health.” Other advisors also followed suit.
Similarly, youth leader of Nepali Congress also informed the public and well-wishers about him testing positive to the virus. He informed that his health was normal and staying in home isolation. The leader also suggested others in his contact to take special care of their health.
Not only political leaders but also the doctors, artists and journalists have been informing public and their well wishers about their status.
It may be noted that the government did not release the details of COVID-19 infected for the first time in the country as some of them had returned from Wuhan city of China.
The Health Ministry has just shared that they were infected on February 3. However, the infected are gradually disclosing their identity openly of late.
Meanwhile, epidemiology chief Dr Vasudev Pandey shares that the infected persons are disclosing their details aiming to alert others so that they could stay alert and safe.
Similarly, psychologist Dr Aruna Upreti shared that the panic of the pandemics is gradually decreasing and awareness among the people is increasing.
She said that all kinds of pandemics and deadly diseases affected persons try to hide their details at first as such cases used to see on other cases like HIV, TB and other deadly diseases in the past.
Coronavirus infected journalist Matrika Poudel said that people who came in contact with COVID-19 infected people would adopt precautions once they knew that the person visiting the public place is infected with COVID-19. He tested positive with coronavirus on Thursday. Poudel shared, “We don’t know whom we met. Others will adopt precautions if they know that the public figure is infected with coronavirus.”
Psychiatrist Dr Upreti said that the coronavirus infected people still could not be open about their infection. People infected with coronavirus are still being stigmatized in the society.
Director at Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital, Dr Sagar Raj Bhandari, said that they could not share details about the patients without their permission. He however said that people are voluntarily informing people about their infection with coronavirus as one might be infected with COVID-19.
A total of 90,814 people have been infected with coronavirus while 563 lost their lives to the virus as of today. RSS
