Police arrests monk in connection with Bamjan case
SIDNHULI: The police today arrested a monk from the Ashram of Ram Bahadur Bamjan, a self-declared hermit, charged with rape and disappearance cases in Kamalamai Municipality-8 in the district.
Indra Bahadur Syangtan was held for interrogations as part of the police investigations into Bamjan accused of committing violence against women, raping his disciples and disappearing them.
Meanwhile, a police team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Bimal Raj Kandel in the course of the investigations reached Sindhuli on Wednesday. The team interrogated some of Bamjan’s disciples with regard to the incident before inspecting the Ashram.
Bamjan’s followers told the police that they had been to the Ashram in search of truth, and that they were receiving enlightenment. They also told the team that Bamjan could not be reached at that moment as he was attending a closed camp training.
They said Bamjan’s other Ashrams are located also at Patharkot of Sarlahi and Sindhupalchok. Earlier, the team raided the Ashram of Bamjan in Sindhuplachok to investigate the disappearance of some of his followers. The police acted on the complaints filed by the families of the people allegedly disappeared by Bamjan.
DSP Kandel said they were investigating the matter. “We are launching a cross-questioning under the investigations,” he said.
