PM to be discharged after six days: Dr Khadga

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli would be discharged after six days of the transplant, said executive director of the TU Teaching hospital Prof Dr Prem Krishna Khadga. “Our experiences so far show that a patient is discharged after six days of kidney transplant. Our goal is the same. We discharge a patient after five to six days of kidney transplant,” he said.
Prime Minister Oli is undergoing kidney transplant at the TU Teaching Hospital in Maharajgunj this Wednesday. The hospital performs kidney transplant every Wednesday. It takes three to four hours to perform the kidney transplant on a patient, and two kidneys are transplanted a week, he said.
A decade since the hospital started the service, the figure of successful kidney transplant recipients has reached approximately 800 so far, he said.
The first time the hospital performed a kidney transplant successfully was in Shrawan, 2065 BS.
General people praise PM’s decision
General people have praised PM Oli’s decision to get a kidney transplant in the country itself. The people’s reaction to his decision comes amidst high profile people including Prime Ministers, ministers and political leaders among others opting for foreign treatment on state’s expenditures.
PM Oli’s decision has given a good message to others, said Dipak Sharma of Dhapasi, who was found in the hospital premises. “I am pleased with PM’s decision. Teaching Hospital provides quality service. Other leaders can get treatment here,” he said.
A dense crowd of PM’s well-wishers had gathered at the hospital to wish him for a successful transplant.
