KATHMANDU:- Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Wednesday said the judiciary should be capable and aware for the effective implementation of laws, which get changed according to new contexts, norms and values of the society.
He referred to the process of a change in existing laws and rules as per the reforms in the society and level of public awareness. PM Oli was inaugurating a newly constructed building of the Office of Attorney General at Ramshahpath and the 3rd National Conference of Attorneys here.
Stating that the process of making new acts, amending the existing ones and issuing new regulations and procedures in course of the implementation of the constitution was on, he said effectiveness in investigation, prosecution and pleading play important role in justice delivery.
On the occasion, Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana said the criminal justice system would be effective through professionalism, activism and capacity development of attorneys, who are backbone of the justice system. He said they were committed to free, impartial and efficient judiciary as expected by the people.
Likewise, Chairperson of Nepal Bar Association, Chandeshwor Shrestha, said people would get justice and peace through reforms in judiciary. Inspector General of Police Shailesh Thapa Chhetri pledged to help implement thoughts of the Office of Attorney General to make criminal justice effective by carrying out reforms in prosecution. The three-day conference has been attended physically and virtually by 394 attorneys and 70 stakeholders.
On the occasion, Joint Attorney General Shyam Kumar Bhattarai bagged the ‘Government Attorney of the Year’ award. PM Oli handed the award to Bhattarai. The award was established two years ago by the Office of Attorney General.
An announcement was also made to honour various 10 attorneys and employees.
