Planning Commission to monitor dev projects across nation


KATHMANDU: The National Planning Commission (NPC) on Sunday formed five high-level teams to monitor development projects across the nation. A full meeting of the Commission held today at PM Sushil Koirala’s residence in Baluwatar this evening decided to its members including Vice-Chairman in monitoring of development projects. PM’s press coordinator Prakash Adhikari said Vice-Chairman Govinda Pokhrel will lead the NPC monitoring team in Rapti and Bheri zones whereas members Govinda Nepal and Yagya Bahadur Karki will be mobilised in Gandaki, Lumbini and Dhaulagiri zones. NPC members Bharatendu Mishra and Bimala Rai Paudyal will monitor development works in Janakpur, Narayani and Bagmati zones. Likewise, member duo Chandra Mani Adhikari and Prem Dangal will oversee projects in Mechi, Koshi and Sagarmatha zones. Commission’s member Swarnim Wagle and Secretary Sharada Prasad Trital will monitor Karnali, Seti and Mahakali zones. The meeting chaired by PM Koirala also decided to study organisational structure, roles and responsibilities of the Commission so as to make it more effective. Vice-Chair Pokhrel said a team formed to study various aspects the NPC will be asked to submit its report in three months. It is the first meeting since Koirala assumed PM’s office in February. The Prime Minister is the ex-officio Chairman of the Commission.

Nepal to host LDC meeting

Meanwhile, the NPC also decided to host a ministerial meeting of least developed countries (LDCs) in an appropriate time after the SAARC Summit. The SAARC Summit is scheduled for November this year in Kathmandu.
