PCN writes to Press Council of India over fabricated news of some Indian media on Nepal

KATHMANDU:- Chairman of Press Council Nepal (PCN) Kishor Shrestha has written to his Indian counterpart Justice Chandramauli Kumar Prasad expressing concern over some Indian media’s coverage concerning bilateral issues in the recent days.
Shrestha has stated that few television channels were engaged in unrelenting campaign against Nepal, its integrity and sovereignty. “The smearing media campaign that started with disseminating fabricated news about Nepal’s historical decision to incorporate Limpiyadhura in its official political map, continues by offending Nepal’s Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli with framed hateful story; which we are confident that you would consider a blemish in the name of journalism,” Shrestha wrote to Chairman of Press council of India on Friday.
Shrestha has further stated that the fabricated video story produced and disseminated by a news channel of India and sensationalized social media sites fantasized framed information and has also attacked the integrity of a sovereign nation. “This has escalated ongoing bilateral tensions among the people and governments of Nepal and India.”
The PCN Chairman mentioned that there were many baseless stories produced by India television channels that attack upon the integrity of Nepal.
“We trust you are worried to learn about these incidents and would facilitate reaching out to the media outlets or a concerned authority as it is pertinent for us to promote ethical journalism around,” the Press Council Nepal Chairman drew attention to this Indian counterpart in written.
Likewise, he called for Prasad to initiate for dialogues reminding concerned media outlets to stick on media ethics. Chairman Shrestha expressed confidence that his role will be instrumental in finding way out to the crisis adding that broadcasting of some Indian television channels has been banned in Nepal owning to the situation resulting from this incident.
