Parliament approves current fiscal year budget

KATHMANDU: The budget estimates for the Fiscal Year 2014/15 has been passed today.
The budget was approved after today’s meeting of the Legislature-Parliament endorsed the Bill relating to recovering National Debts and the Credit and Collateral Bill, 2071 B.S.
Both the bills, tabled by Finance Minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat, were approved with a majority.
Earlier, the parliament meetings last Tuesday and Wednesday had approved the Appropriation Bill, 2071 and Financial Bill, 2071 B.S. The budget is thereby endorsed with the endorsement of the four bills in the parliament.
As a special session of the Legislature-Parliament on July 13, 2014, Finance Minister Dr Ram Saran Mahat had presented the budget of Rs 620 billion on July 13, 2014.
The endorsement of the budget was delayed following obstruction of the parliament by the opposition parties including the UCPN (Maoist), accusing the ruling parties of appropriating funds not based on needs but on favouritism.
